Daily tasks of milking, feeding and animal management of the herd, amongst other things, give you the chance to experience certain parts of the industry that can only be found on the farm and not in a book; at only £185 for a full day or £75 for half a day, we offer a great deal!

Being a Farmer for half a day is a fantastic way for you to come and experience what life is really like on a modern dairy farm in the heart of the Cheshire milk field. Purchase a day’s ‘experience voucher’ today; an ideal gift for a Christmas or birthday present for that person in your life who enjoys something different.

The session can take any shape or form you wish whether it is an early start or just a couple of hours in the afternoon.

During your experience, you will participate in the following:

Milking the cows:

A modern computerised milking parlour by Boumatic, from USA milks 12 cows at a time, all computer linked. Installed in 1998, it gives a fast and efficient method of milking the cows under the least stress.

Heifer Rearing:

Young calves are bucket fed from birth, weaned at 7 weeks and have their first calf between two and two and a half years old, when they then enter the milking herd. Tasks to do during their first couple of years include ear tagging, de-horning, worming and foot trimming.

Some more information:

Dairy farming has been in the Davis family for over 60 years, now in its third generation at Gorstage Green farm. We maintain a high standard of health and welfare of the Crosshillocks herd of pedigree Holstein cows.

Recent media coverage has included the ‘Jeremy Kyle’ Show on ITV, national press coverage in the Guardian, Observer and Independent and December’s issue of Cheshire Life magazine. We also gained a “Highly Commended” award in the recent Cheshire Awards for Tourism Skills as ‘Best New Entrant’.

Our aim is to give people the chance to come for a day and experience what life is like for a young dairy farmer running a one man business of 90 milking cows plus followers. Your day could include everything from milking the cows, feeding the baby calves, trimming cows feet or mucking out the bull.
